Reset Internet Explorer 8

The first solution recommended by Microsoft is to perform an application reset. Even if you cannot open Internet Explorer 8, you can reset the program within Windows itself. Windows computers contain a Control Panel, where, among other options, you are allowed to configure IE8. One of the options in the settings is the "Reset" button. After you click "Reset," the program will revert to its default setting.

If you reset the program and the browser continues to malfunction, the next recommended solution is to remove and re-install the program. The program can be removed in the Control Panel. Additionally, the program can be re-installed in the Control Panel itself, as Internet Explorer is a core Windows feature. As a result, you do not need to access the Microsoft website to download the program.

Windows 7 includes two Internet Explorer Troubleshooters: "Internet Explorer Performance" and "Internet Explorer Safety."
