You can potentially resolve problems with downloading Skype software on your computer with basic troubleshooting steps, such as checking your Internet connection. Running applications, your security software and the location in which you want to download the software can significantly impact your ability to complete the download.

If your Skype download seems to stall or is taking a long time, check your Internet connection. Running applications and other downloads can slow or stall your Skype download. You can restart the applications and downloads after the Skype download completes. Ensure that your computer has a good signal if you use a wireless connection. Restart your computer if the download significantly stalls, and restart the download when the computer fully-loads. Do not open any unnecessary applications until the download completes.

Check your Web browser to ensure that the download was not blocked by a pop-up blocker. If the pop-up blocker prevented the download from beginning, click “Allow” to start the download. If the problems continue, try using a different browser to complete the download. You can download another browser such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Safari using your default browser if necessary. You do not have to change your default browser to use the alternate browser.

Check your computer's security software if the download or installation continues to fail. Anti-virus or firewall programs can prevent the software from successfully installing on your computer. You can temporarily disable the programs and restart the download. After Skype is installed on your computer, you can restart your security software. If your firewall blocks the application, add an exception for the application. Refer to your firewall's help menu for assistance with adding an exception.

Ensure you are downloading the software to a folder on the computer instead of a network drive if the download problems persist. Cancel and restart the download. When prompted to select a folder to save the installation folder, you can opt to save it to a folder such as Downloads or Documents. You can also save the installation file on your computer's desktop. When you save the file to your computer's desktop, it makes it easier for you to locate it if an issue occurs during installation.
