Topics of Beauty Pageants

Whether it's a local parade pageant or the Miss Universe competition, one thing beauty pageants have in common is the interview portion of the competition. During an interview, contestants must answer questions from a variety of topics. Understanding what topics may be discussed can help increase your chances of placing higher in the pageant.

Personal Accomplishments

One common topic for beauty pageants involves personal accomplishments in the life of the competitor. These may include recognition or awards in academics or accomplishments in music, sports, debate, theater or other extracurricular activities. Sample topic questions may involve what you feel your greatest accomplishment is, or what your biggest struggle was to achieve an accomplishment in your life, and how you overcame it.

Community Service

Community service is another common topic in beauty pageants. As pageants move further away from an emphasis on physical beauty, topics like projects, volunteer work, or other areas of service where you give of yourself to help your community take more of a center stage. Sample topics may include past volunteer work you've performed, and what you feel you gained from taking part in the work.

National and World Events

National and world events are frequent topics for discussion during beauty pageant questioning. Focus can be on either national events, such as tragedies or natural disasters, or world events, like wars or human rights issues. These topics show not only that you can present yourself well in an interview format, but that you also care about and are knowledgeable about current events and how they affect you and those around you. A sample question might involve why it is important that women in third world countries have access to education.

Past and Future

You may encounter past and future questions during a beauty pageant. These topics may require you to explain how your past has defined who you are today, or what plans you have for your future. For example, a questioner may inquire where you expect to be in 10 years, and what you hope to have accomplished by then.
