Why Does Google Put a Yellow Star by Your URL?
Yellow stars next to a URL signify that the current page has been bookmarked. The bookmark or yellow star isn't applied by the Google search engine, but is supported in Google's Chrome Web browser. Other popular browsers, including Mozilla Firefox, use the same technique of indicating bookmarked pages. The process of adding and removing bookmarks is slightly different depending on the browser involved.

Google Chrome
-
In Google Chrome, a star appears on the right-hand side of the address and search bar. To add the current page to the list of stored bookmarks, click the star to turn it yellow. A small drop-down box appears enabling you to change the name of the bookmark and set which folder it appears in. Further options are available by clicking the "Edit..." button. To reverse the process and remove a site from your list of bookmarks, click the star again and choose "Remove" from the drop-down box.
Managing Bookmarks
-
To manage bookmarks in Google Chrome, select "Bookmarks" from the main program menu, accessed by clicking the wrench icon. From the sub-menu that appears you can visit any of your bookmarks, show or hide the bookmark bar and import bookmarks from other browsers. Select the "Bookmark manager" link to organize your bookmarks into folders and change the properties of each bookmark, such as the title and URL.

Mozilla Firefox
-
Mozilla Firefox uses the same starring method employed by Google Chrome to set and indicate bookmarks. To create a bookmark in Firefox, click the star to the right of the address and search bar. By default bookmarks are stored in the Unsorted Bookmarks folder, though they also appear under the Recently Bookmarked heading. To organize your bookmarks further, select "Bookmarks," then "Show All Bookmarks" from the main Firefox menu. Once a URL has been bookmarked, clicking on the yellow star again enables you to remove the bookmark or change its settings.
Other Browsers
-
Each Web browser has its own way of setting and displaying bookmarks. In Internet Explorer, clicking on the star icon in the far right-hand corner brings up a list of existing bookmarks and folders and enables you to add a new bookmark (referred to as a "favorite" in Internet Explorer). In the case of Opera, bookmarks are set by clicking "Bookmarks," then "Bookmark Page" from the main Opera menu. Choose "Manage Bookmarks" from the same menu to edit bookmark properties and organize links into folders.
