Inspect thread for tangles and other flaws before sewing.

The Brother CS-8072 provides sewing capabilities with a variety of different stitch types. Occasionally, a problem may arise resulting in the thread breaking repeatedly while you sew. When this occurs, you must look into the potential causes of the breaking thread to determine the precise culprit. These causes include problems with the thread and improper machine setup.

  1. Tangled or Otherwise Flawed Thread

    • Problems with the thread, such as tangles and fraying, may result in the thread breaking while sewing. Inspect the thread closely to confirm that no flaws exist. If you find a problem with the thread, remove the thread from the machine, and then cut to remove the damaged portion before rethreading your CS-8072.

    Machine Threaded Improperly

    • When you fail to thread the Brother CS-8072 properly, the thread may repeatedly break while sewing. If this occurs, then remove the upper thread from the CS-8072, and then thread the machine again. Before you can thread the machine, you must raise the presser foot lever and press the “Needle Position” button to raise the needle. Place the thread on the spool pin, making sure that the thread comes from the front of the spool, and then place the spool cap over the thread. Use the cap closest to the size of the thread spool. Guide the thread through the numbered thread guides, keeping the thread taut. Lower the presser foot to continue to guide the thread through the thread guides and to thread the needle. Refer to the manufacturer’s operation manual for detailed instructions and diagrams on how to thread your Brother CS-8072 sewing machine.

    Incorrect Needle

    • Using the wrong the needle can result in the thread breaking while sewing. In addition, a dull or bent needle also may cause the thread to break. Inspect the needle and replace it following the manufacturer’s instructions if you find any flaws. Make sure to select the correct needle for your machine and for the fabric you plan to sew. Refer to your operation manual to verify proper needle selection.

    Incorrect Thread Tension

    • Brother recommends setting the thread tension dial to “4” for general sewing. For certain fabrics, however, you may need to adjust the tension. If the thread repeatedly breaks, try loosening or increasing the thread tension. To loosen the tension, turn the dial to the left. Turn the dial to the right to increase the thread tension. The greater the number that appears on the dial, the greater the tension in the thread.
