Indiglo is the trademarked name that Timex calls the backlight on its watches. The company originally patented the Indiglo feature in 1988. The light creates a blue-green glow on the entire face of the watch. This glow allows you to read the watch and use its different functions even in the dark. Timex coats the dial of the watch with a chemical that lights up when an electrical signal is introduced. Pushing a button on the watch creates the charge necessary to light up the watch.

The Indiglo light is a feature on analog and digital Timex watches, some of which also have an alarm function. Some models have a basic, one alarm function, but other models have multiple alarms. On these models, you can set up to three different alarm times. The more advanced Timex watches also include a five minute back up alarm -- similar to the snooze button on an alarm clock.

Indiglo watches have between one and five function buttons. The buttons on two different watches may have different functions. For example, the button that activates the Indiglo light is on the top left, top right or on the front of the watch face, depending on the watch model. Most Timex watches have markings on the face that indicate the function of each button, such as "Mode," "Set/Recall" and "Stop/Reset."

For most Timex Indiglo watches, setting the alarm involves first using the "Mode" button to access the alarm function. Use the "Set/Recall" button to choose your values for the hour and minute, and use the "Next" button to cycle through the different settings.
