My Mac Keeps Sleeping After Waking
By using the sleep feature that is available on all Macs, you have the ability to put your computer in an energy-saving mode while you're not using it. This can be a time saver that keeps you from having to reboot your computer every time you want to use it. But if your sleep feature isn't working properly and the computer goes back to sleep after you've woken it, you'll have to do some troubleshooting to root out the problem.

Sleep Preferences
-
When you're looking for a solution to your problem, try the simplest fixes first. Navigate to your computer's System Preferences folder by clicking the Apple logo at the upper left of your screen and selecting "System Preferences," and then "Energy Saver." Then view the "Computer Sleep" slider; if it's set all the way to the left, your computer is going to go back to sleep after one minute of inactivity. If this is the case, move the slider to the right to set your new sleep preference, then click the lock at the bottom left of the window to prevent any changes to your newly set preference.
Sleep Schedule
-
A set sleep schedule may be another factor that may be causing your computer to go to sleep just after waking. From the "Energy Saver" preferences window, click "Schedule." This displays a schedule that may have been set for your computer to go to sleep at a certain time of day -- which could be coinciding with the time you're having it wake up. To disable this feature, un-check the boxes next to "Start up or wake" and "Sleep," and then click "OK."

Apple Hardware Test
-
All Mac computers come with some troubleshooting tools that can help you diagnose problems called the Apple Hardware Test. Different versions of Macs have different processes for doing the hardware test, but typically, the test is done by either booting up the computer and pressing certain keys during startup to initiate the hardware test or by inserting a CD that runs several tests for you. The Apple site provides detailed information about running the Apple Hardware Test on your computer.
AppleJack
-
Another option for diagnosing your particular problem is the third-party AppleJack for Macs program, available for free download. The application allows you to fix disk and permission problems as well as adjust the preferences for your computer. Any of these issues may be the cause of your problem with sleep mode, so AppleJack may be a useful diagnostic tool if the Apple Hardware Test hasn't been effective.
