Many kitchens are busy creating home baked sweets during the Christmas holiday season to give out as gifts, take to office pot lucks or to have as part of a family celebration. Sweets made during this time of year use many different ingredients, including chocolate, sugar, corn syrup and nuts. Baking ingredients, such as peppermint and cinnamon, tend to be used more during the Christmas baking season than any other time of year. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Cookies

    • Homemade cookies are a staple of almost any Christmas celebration. Cookies are made and given out as gifts, used for pot luck lunches at work or shared at cookie exchanges. Different types of Christmas cookies include gingerbread men, sugar cookies, snicker doodles, oatmeal and thumbprint.

    Candies

    • Christmas candy is an important part of the season’s gift giving tradition. Christmas-themed candies are used a stocking-stuffers, gifts and set out in the house for guests to snack on. Different holiday candies include rock candy, toffee, chocolate bark candy, ribbon candy, candy canes, sugar gum drops, truffles and peppermint bark. Christmas candy can either be store bought or homemade.

    Desserts

    • Set up a dessert table that includes a variety of different desserts. Traditional Christmas desserts include cakes, pies, pudding, Yule logs and mousse. Irish cream and dessert coffees can be served along with a piece of pound cake or pecan pie. Cakes and pies can also be served at an office pot luck or given out as office gifts.

    Sweet Food

    • Sweet foods, such as salads and sauces are dishes that are sweet enough to be a dessert, but are instead served with Christmas dinner. Different sweet foods for Christmas include ambrosia salad, cranberry sauce, cranberry-pineapple sauce and candied carrots. Meatballs in a sweet sauce or turkey filled with a sweet bread stuffing can be served as part of the main course of the Christmas dinner.
