What Does the Video Camera Icon on ooVoo Mean?
If you use ooVoo, the free VoIP application, for chatting, you've probably already noticed that the icons don't have text to explain what function they perform. One example is the video camera icon, which is prominently displayed next to Available Contacts. The video camera icon lets you access ooVoo's video chatting feature and change your webcam settings.

Available for Windows, Mac OS X, iOS and Android operating systems, ooVoo is free to download and use basic services, but offers paid premium features. Free features include instant messaging, up to six-way group video chatting, video messages and file sharing for up to 5-megabyte files. With a free subscription, the maximum number for a group video chat is six, while it goes up to 12 with a paid subscription. Extra features in video chatting for both free and premium versions of ooVoo include being able to invite a contact to join an existing video chat and merging audio and video chats for contacts without a webcam. To video-chat on ooVoo, both callers must be members.

Using the Video Camera Icon

When you want to initiate a video chat with someone on ooVoo, locate the contact in your ooVoo contact list and click the video camera icon next to the user name. You can use other methods for initiating a video chat, but the video camera icon provides a direct link for easy access. Names that lack the video camera icon indicate that the person isn't available for video chatting at that time.

The video camera icon's primary use is for initiating video chats, but it can also access your settings during a video call. Click the video camera icon during a call and then click "Camera Settings" from the drop-down menu. Move the slider up or down to make adjustments to brightness, contrast and color. ooVoo displays a live preview of your adjustments. Click "Apply" to save your adjustments.
