My KitchenAid Gas Cooktop Lighter Does Not Ignite
The use of your KitchenAid gas cooktop depends on your ability to ignite the gas into a flame. If yours won’t light, it could be anything from a problem with the electricity intake to the gas intake. KitchenAid will send someone out to make a service call if you’re having trouble, but the cost of that visit can vary depending on the problem and the status of your warranty. To avoid that cost, check some of the basic ignition problems before calling for service. Does this Spark an idea?

Normal Use
-
Although it can vary depending on the model, many KitchenAid gas cooktops have a safety feature during normal use. You must push in the knob when turning it from “Off” to “Light.” If you don’t, the burner won’t ignite. If your cooktop ignition problem stems from getting the knob to move to “Light,” this may address it.
Electrical Problems
-
If you’re using the cooktop’s controls correctly and the burner still won’t ignite, look at the control panel of the unit. If it’s not showing any indicators at all, it may not be receiving electricity. Check that the cooktop is plugged into a working electrical outlet. Also check the corresponding breaker or fuse box to make sure it’s not a case of a blown fuse or tripped breaker.

Gas Problems
-
When you turn the knob of your KitchenAid gas cooktop to “Light,” you should hear a whooshing sound of gas coming out of the burner vents. If you don’t hear it, make sure there’s gas service to the home. Check that the cooktop is connected to the gas valve and that the valve is open. If these are in order, check the burner vents for obstructions that prevent the gas from coming out.
Continuous Sparking
-
If your KitchenAid gas cooktop won’t light but puts out continuous sparks when you turn the knob to “Light,” turn the burner off immediately. Your cooktop needs servicing before you can attempt to use it again. Call the KitchenAid customer service line (1-800-422-1230) to find a certified KitchenAid repair technician in your area. Remember that if you allow anyone other than a certified KitchenAid technician to work on your cooktop, you will void any limited manufacturer warranty or extended retailer warranty on the unit.
