Boomerangs can be made in all different shapes, colors and sizes.

A boomerang is a curved shaped, flying object, designed to return to you after being thrown. The most well known are the traditional Australian wooden boomerangs, originally used by the Australian Aborigines for hunting. Nowadays, boomerangs are generally used as part of leisure activity and sport, a great activity that can be played solo. This curved shaped can inspire many creative craft options. The boomerang shape can be more visually interesting than straight lines, and is a great basis for many funky craft designs.

  1. Boomerang Magnets

    • Use any kind of modeling clay that can be baked and hardened in the oven to create boomerang magnets. This is a great way to display your craft creations on the fridge for other family members and friends to see. Mold your clay into the boomerang shape; use a single color of clay or create a multicolored boomerang. Add any details or embellishments you desire onto your boomerang. Bake your boomerang in the oven and then use a glue gun to attach magnets to the back.

    Boomerang Wind Chime

    • Another boomerang shaped craft made from clay is a boomerang wind chime. Make several clay boomerangs. These can be different or the same size, as you desire. Make a clay circle, about 5 inches in diameter and about 1/4 inch thick. This will be what you attach your boomerangs to. Attach a small clay knob with a hole through the middle onto the center of the clay circle. This is what you will hang your wind chime from. Make a small hole in each boomerang. For each boomerang that you made, add a small hole around the outer edge of your clay circle, evenly spacing each hole around the clay circle. Bake your boomerangs and clay center circle, then using fishing line or yarn, tie each boomerang to the center circle and hang up your boomerang wind chime.

    Boomerang Door Sign

    • A boomerang can serve as a nifty way to post a sign or announcement on your door. Cut out a boomerang shape from a piece of cardboard. Paint your boomerang and let it dry. Punch a hole in each end of the boomerang. Punch two holes in each end of your sign, making sure that they line up with where the boomerang holes are. String a small piece of yarn through the holes to attach the ends of your boomerang to your poster or sign. Put a tack or nail in your door or wall and simply hang the boomerang section of your door hanger on top.

    Decorative Boomerang Craft

    • A decorative boomerang is great for children or when you are in need of an inexpensive, quick, impromptu craft. For this craft project, use any leftover scrap supplies and odds and ends lying around. Cut out your boomerang from card stock. Then decorate your boomerang using glitter, paint, buttons and anything else you desire. This kind of craft allows kids to explore their creative potential and make something individual and original.
