Craigslist Photo Guidelines
Humans are visual creatures, especially when they want to buy something via an ad on the Craigslist website. Even the most well-written posting on Craigslist can benefit from a picture or two. Pictures let potential buyers see your items in detail. Online scams are not uncommon, so buyers want to know that you are offering a legitimate product. Craigslist allows photos in most categories as long as you follow the posting guidelines.

Select an Appropriate Image
-
Craigslist has relatively few guidelines for posting images, but you must follow these guidelines to ensure that your pictures and posting are not removed. You cannot post photos depicting illegal acts or substances or pornography. Craigslist does not allow images that defame or harass another person. You must own the image you wish to post; do not use images from another person or website with the owner's permission.
Provide Useful, Informative Images
-
Craigslist lets you add up to four images in a post. Take advantage of this and post enough images to accurately display your item. For example, if you have a car for sale, a single picture is not acceptable to most potential buyers. One picture cannot show every angle of the car's interior and exterior. One photo is acceptable for small, simple items, like a book or a child's toy. Take a picture of any damage or flaws; do not try to disguise them. Always be honest about your item. This helps buyers trust you.
-
Upload the Image to an Online Host
-
Craigslist does not allow you to add a photo directly to your post. Instead, you need to upload the image to an online host. If you have a website or blog, you can post your image there. If you don't have your own site, use a free image hosting service, like Picassa, Flickr or Photobucket. When you upload the picture to your site or a hosting service, you get a URL for the picture. Copy the URL. You need this URL to make an HTML tag.
Make an HTML Tag for the Image
-
Before you can put an image in your Craigslist post, you need to create an HTML tag for it. Your image will appear where you insert the HTML tag. Click the spot in your post where you want to place the tag. Type the following:
<img src="http://www.yoursite.com/yourimage.jpg" />
Replace "yoursite.com/yourimage.jpg" with your image's URL. Save the changes to your post. The picture now displays when someone clicks on the post.
