Activities About Postal Workers for Kids
Even though many people use email instead of traditional mail from the United States Post Office, traditional mail is still an essential governmental service for sending and receiving letters and packages. Teaching children about the post office and postal workers prepares them for using the services in adulthood. One way to do so is to make post office crafts.

Homemade Mailbox
-
Every home needs a mailbox or slot for the mail to go into, whether it's affixed to the side of your house off the porch or freestanding next to the road. Your child can have his own mailbox to put letters and birthday cards in. Get a cardboard box and cut a slit in the top large enough to slip letters through. Cut a door on the side to open so your child can remove the mail. Help him decorate the box using markers, crayons, construction paper or stickers.
Stamps
-
Every letter mailed needs to have proper postage. Some companies have postage-paid envelopes, but the majority require you to affix a stamp. Most stamps are self-adhesive and do not require wetting before you adhere them to the envelope, so purchase self-adhesive labels and decorate them. Assign prices to them and use them to distribute letters to everyone in the family.

Postcards
-
Letters take long to write and don't hold the attention of younger children for long. Purchase 3-inch-by-5-inch index cards and use them to make imitation postcards to give for birthdays, holidays or just because. Decorate one side of the card with a picture, and on the other side draw a vertical line down the center. Instruct your child to write a message on one side while placing proper postage on the other side.
Mailbag
-
Postal workers carry mail in canvas bags. They're reusable and eco-friendly. Purchase a plain bag from a retail or grocery store and write the word "Mail" on it using a permanent marker. Place the mail you receive from the post office in it everyday and allow him to use the bag to hand it out to everyone in the house.
