Explanation of Google Ping
Contributing to an online blog can increase the audience for your writing, but you can maximize that audience by taking advantage of various online indexing tools. Google Ping is one online service that notifies search engines of updates in your online content. Use it when you've updated your blog to increase the amount of people who will eventually access your website.

Google Ping
-
Google Ping is a website that helps a user ping his website or blog to various search engines, including Google. To use Google Ping, enter the appropriate details into the text entry fields in the box titled "Blog Details." Each entry field is clearly marked to indicate where to enter the name of your blog or website, the homepage URL, your email address and the really simple syndication, or RSS, URL, if you have one. Google Ping also lets you choose which search engines to ping; as of October 2011, there were more than 100 different search engine and blog listing services available to ping for free on Google Ping.
Why Ping?
-
Pinging a search engine with your blog information helps your website be listed in the directory and can help promote traffic to the site. Without pinging, it can take a much longer time, months in some cases, for a website to be indexed by a search engine. Being proactive about getting your blog indexed by multiple search engines is a great step to make sure your content is being read by as wide an audience as possible.

Manual Pinging
-
You can manually ping search engines without the use of Google Ping directly from your Internet browser. Each different search engine has a unique ping address which you must use to ping that specific engine. For example, you can ping Ask.com by entering "http://submissions.ask.com/ping?sitemap," where "sitemap" is the URL for your blog or website. You can ping Google by entering the URL "http://www.google.com/ping?sitemap," where "sitemap" is again the URL for your website.
Considerations
-
Only use Google Ping or other pinging services when you add new content or make major updates to your blog or website. Too many pings for no new content may cause some search engines to block your website. However, you can get away with pinging your website multiple times as long as you add new content before each ping. Although Google Ping has a wide range of search engine ping options, examine other pinging services to increase the number of search engines you can ping.
