The Arbor Day Foundation has recognized Tulare as part of its "Tree City USA" program for more than 20 years and the city boasts plenty of green areas and parks that offer outdoor entertainment for children. Kids looking to get involved in indoor fun and educational activities will also find plenty of options open to them in Tulare.

Outdoor Play Activities

The Tulare Parks and Recreation Department manages facilities that cater to kids outdoor play activities. Locations that have children's playground equipment available include Bender Park, Palm Ranch Park, and Blain Park. The Rotary Skate Park at Topham Park has bowls, rails, and ramps for kids to practice their rollerblading or skateboarding skills. The Tulare Santa Fe Trail runs through rural and downtown areas of the city and provides a safe route for kids to ride their bikes.

Indoor Play Activities

The Time Out Pizza and Fun Center has one of the largest indoor arcade rooms in Tulare. Kids that visit will find video games, air hockey and pinball machines to play. The Tulare Roller Derby League provides fun for kids that enjoy roller skating. The league's junior derby program allows children aged 6 to 17 to get involved, with three home teams and one travel team taking part in competitive roller derby matches.

Educational Activities

Visiting the Tulare Historical Museum provides the opportunity for kids to learn some of the history of the city. The museum galleries display pictures and artifacts showcasing many of the important people, places and events in Tulare's history. Becoming a student member of the museum, available to kids up to 12th grade, allows free admission to the museum. The Tulare Public Library offers activities for kids of all ages. Facilities managed by the Tulare Parks and Recreation Department that cater to outdoor sports include Prosperity Sports Park. This has four baseball fields and a basketball court. The lake in Del Lago Park offers fishing opportunities for kids aged 15 and under, and Centennial Park has a softball field, tennis courts and horseshoe pits. The Tulare MX Cycle Park provides dirt bike riding opportunities for kids. The park offers lessons for beginners and has two tracks on which children can test their riding skills.
