Ideas for a Bumblebee Shower
Selecting a bumblebee theme for a baby shower is a gender-neutral alternative to dragonflies or butterflies. It is a design that will work particularly well for spring or summer showers and will do well for casual or formal affairs. The shape and colors of a bumblebee can be included in every aspect of the party, from invitations to goody bags, and is even growing in popularity as nursery décor. There is a number of ways to incorporate this theme into a shower.
-
Invitations
-
Bumblebee themed invitations are going to be the first step to a theme shower. Special order invitations with yellow and black coloring or, for a more subtle option, choose yellow paper and black ink. Most invitation manufacturers will offer a bumblebee print or die cut option. Seal envelopes with bumblebee stickers and, if available, add a bee print postage stamp. There are several, less literal options for designs, including a honey pot, flowers or a beehive. Play on bee words for a nice touch: “The hive is buzzing over the new baby” or “Cute as can bee shower.”
Decor
-
The décor will depend largely on the type of shower, whether it is casual or formal. For a casual get together, drape yellow and black streamers around the room and light fixtures. Have balloons in yellow and black tied to chair backs or floating against the ceiling. Mix in some balloons shaped like a bee to fit the theme. For a more formal affair, drape chairs with black and yellow tulle and lay black table cloths with yellow runners. Centerpieces are flexible with this theme; they can include flowers that have been colored black and yellow or a multicolored selection of wildflowers. Fill clear jars with black and yellow M&Ms or jelly beans.

Food
-
Food is an essential part of any shower, but it might be among the more challenging aspects for a bee theme. Most bakeries will be able to pull off a bee shaped cake or cookies, while homemade cupcakes can be topped with plastic bees. Honey-based foods are also an option — honey glazed ham or peanut butter and honey finger sandwiches, for example. Honey is also an excellent topping for ice cream or yogurt and, with its natural sweet taste, as a base for fruit dips.
Party Favors
-
Fill goody bags with an assortment of black and yellow candies, bee themed cookies and small jars of honey. Bumble bee shaped soaps are available from a number of online sources, as are yellow and black votive candles. Tie each bag with yellow and black ribbons or, if available, a black and yellow striped or polka dotted ribbon. Cupcakes topped and texturized with white or beige frosting will give the appearance of a beehive. Wrap all potentially messy treats in yellow cellophane and tie it off with ribbon.
