Butterfly & Fairy Bedroom Ideas
From attracting mates to dodging predators, butterfly wing colors serve many purposes in nature. In folklore, those bright wings may have been the inspiration for fairies. In a little girl’s room, both may be the inspiration for an enchanted decor. Invite this delightful combination of winged creatures into your daughter’s bedroom to add a touch of whimsy, splash some color and spread a bit of magic. Does this Spark an idea?

Headboard
-
Create a headboard in the shape of a butterfly or fairy wings. Build the headboard out of wood, then paint and decorate it to complement the color scheme of the room. If you lack confidence in your carpentry skills, try a different approach. Cut the shape of wings out of a large piece of cardboard, foam sheets or poster board. Paint and decorate the wings, or cover them with fabric. Attach the wings to the wall, and push the bed up against them. Another option is to paint a pair of wings on the wall, or outline a large set of wings and fill them with a mosaic-style collage of butterfly and fairy wall stickers.
Fairy Sparkle
-
Make the room sparkle as if it has been sprinkled with fairy dust. Some metallic paints can be tinted or glazed over a coat of wall paint to add an iridescent finish. Another trick is to stir glitter into a can of paint before applying it to the walls. Drape twinkling string lights over window valances and archways. Cut fairy shapes out of card stock, and outline them with a glitter pen. Hang them from the ceiling with fishing line, to look as though they are flying through the air. Use glow-in-the-dark paint to add stars to the ceiling for even more enchantment come nighttime.

Rubber Stamps and Stencils
-
Use butterfly- and fairy-shaped rubber stamps to embellish various elements of the room. For example, purchase pastel-colored sheets, quilts and curtains, and use the rubber stamps dipped n fabric paint to create a matching bedding and window dressing set. With fairy and butterfly stencils, you can add winged creatures to a wall border, closet doors and window moldings.
Furniture
-
Purchase unfinished wood furniture such as a step stool and storage bench, and paint the pieces in colors that match the room. Add fairy and butterfly images using stencils or vinyl decals. For a table and chair set, glue fairy wings to backs of the chairs, and place the set atop a butterfly-shaped rug.
