Can't Login to Yahoo! Mail on Firefox

At least 284 million people used Yahoo Mail in 2011, according to PC Magazine analyst Michael Muchmore. Yahoo! email service is free and includes features like vacation messages, signatures and the ability to organize mail into folders with different subject headings. If you use Firefox to browse the Internet and are having trouble logging into Yahoo! Mail, troubleshooting a few areas may resolve your issues.

  1. Browser Version

    • Yahoo! recommends that Windows and Mac users who want to access Yahoo! email use Firefox version 3.5 or higher. To check which version of Firefox you are using, go to your browser’s “About Firefox” section.

    Cookies and Caches

    • Cookies are small text files stored by Internet browsers, while caches are copies of the websites you’ve visited. Yahoo! says clearing these out can resolve many issues for Firefox users. To do this in Firefox 3.5 or higher, go to “Tools,” then “Clear Recent History.” Select “Everything” in the “Time Range to Clear” section, and use the “Details” button to select cookies, cache and active logins for clearing. Press “Clear now”, then close and restart your browser.

    Disable Add-Ons and Extensions

    • Add-ons and extensions are tools which add extra features to your browser, including email alerts and stock tickers. These can sometimes interfere with Yahoo! Mail. Try disabling them to see if your log-in problem is resolved. You can find them under the tools, add-ons or extensions menu in Firefox. Features can be disabled by pressing a button.

    Check JavaScript

    • JavaScript is a programming language that Yahoo! Mail needs to operate properly. Make sure JavaScript is enabled in Firefox. To do this, go to the “Options” menu in Firefox, then click on the “Content” button. Check the box beside “Enable Java” and/or “Enable JavaScript” if these buttons aren’t already checked. Close and restart your browser.
