The Logitech G500 vs. the Mamba

The Razer Mamba is a wireless laser mouse designed primarily for video-gaming purposes. The Logitech G500 is a wired USB laser mouse, also designed with video gamers in mind. Apart from how they connect to computers, the mice differ in terms of size, weight, number of buttons and system compatibility.

  1. Size and Weight

    • The Razer Mamba measures 2.8 inches wide, 5 inches long and 1.7 inches tall at its tallest point. It weighs 4.55 ounces before optional upgrades and accessories. The Logitech G500 is slightly larger all around, measuring 2.99 inches wide, 5.09 inches long and 1.73 inches tall at its tallest point. It weighs 4.09 ounces, but its weight can be tuned via an onboard weight adjustment system that lets you add up to an additional 23 grams to the mouse if you prefer a heavier device.

    • The Razer Mamba features seven independently programmable buttons, 1,000 Hz polling rate, a response time of one millisecond, Razer Synapse onboard memory, a maximum movement resolution of 5,600 DPI and a 3.5G laser sensor. Although the Razer Mamba is designed to deliver high-performance wireless results, it also has an optional four-pin USB cable that you can attach to the mouse. The Logitech G500 features eight programmable buttons, a movement resolution of 5700 DPI and 30G maximum acceleration. The G500 connects to computers via a four-pin hard-wired USB connection.

    System Requirements

    • The Razer Mamba is compatible with PCs running Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP. It’s also compatible with Macs running OS X 10.4 or higher. Both PCs and Macs require a USB port, Internet connection for driver installation purposes, and 35 MB of available hard drive space. The Logitech G500 is only compatible with Windows PCs running Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows XP. Additional requirements for the G500 include a USB port and a CD-ROM drive.

    • The Razer Mamba gets up to 14 hours of battery life per charge under continuous usage conditions; 72 hours under normal usage conditions. The Razer Mamba comes bundled with a proprietary charging unit and wireless receiver. Logitech sells the G500 bundled with an adjustable weight cartridge, tuning weights, tuning weight case, a user guide and a CD with all necessary drivers.
