Find out how to dress your baby boy in cute, homemade clothes.

Homemade clothing doesn’t mean hand-me-downs. While infants are happily oblivious to what their clothes look like, most parents are not and want their children to look good when they take them out. If you have a creative spirit and some sewing skills, you can learn how to make clothes for children, including infant boys that look cute, are unique and make the child feel comfortable while wearing them.

  1. One of a Kind Onesies

    • Shopping for babies quickly brings parents to the realization that there are many cute, but costly baby clothes available to purchase at retail stores and baby boutiques. Save money and avoid unintentionally showing up for a play date with your baby dressed in the same outfit as another baby by taking plain white or colored onesies and customizing them. Use custom stencils, fabric craft paint, creative lettering and patches of cut outs from other clothes. You can also use transfer paper to place one-of-a-kind designs onto onesies.

    Darling Diapers

    • While you might not think of diapers as clothing, for infant boys, they are the staple of their wardrobe. Under every outfit -- and sometimes the only thing they wear -- are their diapers. Treat your little guy or your friends’ baby boys to homemade, custom cloth diaper covers. Even friends who prefer disposable diapers can enjoy dressing their boys’ bottoms in cute cloth diaper covers. Choose a few soft cotton or terrycloth fabric patterns that you like and follow a simple pattern to make cloth diapers out of them. Alternatively, buy plain-colored fabric and dress it up with stenciled whales, monkeys, rattles or even letters that form the baby’s name.

    Upcycled Clothes

    • If you’re still expecting or just have an overwhelming urge to clean and organize your closet during your baby’s morning nap, consider repurposing or upcycling your old T-shirts and jeans into clothes for your baby boy before throwing them away. You can turn a T-shirt into a pair of baby pants or turn an old tie of Daddy’s into a small tie for your son.

    Halloween Costumes

    • There’s not much that looks cuter on a baby boy than a Halloween costume. You can turn your little one into a pumpkin, monkey, farmer, pirate or even a rock star for Halloween with a cute, homemade costume. The costumes don’t have to be elaborate and you don’t have to be an expert stitcher to make them. Turn your little guy into a monkey with a tan onesie and a pair of monkey ears taped to a small headband. Alternatively, make him into a farmer with a small straw hat and a red and white gingham style bandana around his shoulders and neck. Make him a rockstar with a little gel for a mowhawk, sunglasses, a white shirt with black leather jacket and a pair of jeans. Get creative, have fun and take lots of pictures.
