Greco-Roman architecture could be a component of your wedding.

The Greco-Romans focused their weddings on not angering the gods, particularly Aphrodite, the goddess of love. The Greeks and Romans were known for their extravagant occasions and a history full of artistic, scientific and cultural advancements including mathematics, the Olympics, democracy and architecture. A contemporary wedding planner has ample opportunity to incorporate some of these many advancements.

  1. Clothes

    • The weather in Greece is hot for most of the year, which was the basis of the decision by the Greco-Roman people to wear light clothing. Not only is the clothing very loose and thin, but it is almost always white or cream-colored to avoid attracting the sun. Stones such as turquoise, purple amethyst and blue lapis can be incorporated into jewelry. These stones are inspired by what was used for an abacus in Greco-Roman times.

    Feast

    • Food was served by one host at the home of either the parents of the bride or groom. The meals would often be served at the bride's parent's home and then a procession was held to the groom's home. Occasionally, the feasts would be hosted at a temple. You may choose to have several feasts at your wedding at numerous locations, which was also common in the Greek and Roman weddings.

    Bride

    • Like modern weddings, preparation of the bride for the Greco-Roman wedding was considered very important. The mother or other women took over the responsibility of dressing the bride. Holding a Greco-Roman wedding could be attractive to women if they want to keep with the theme of being pampered. Women were considered to be very involved in all aspects of the wedding and most women throughout the community were invited.

    Architecture

    • Greco Roman architecture was extravagant, with high ornamental structures that were intended to worship the gods. At your wedding, you can create high pillars, crafted to the most minute detail. The structures were often white and assembled in columns that can run through the guest seating area. Or, you could have your wedding at a Greco-Roman style building, which is an architectural style used to design many older buildings.
