Can You Put a Dryer on Its Side?
Clothes dryers are bulky home appliances that are often awkward to move especially if you are trying to relocate to a new home. Because of the varying size and shape of doorways and hallways in most homes it is sometimes beneficial to lie the appliance on its side. It may also be helpful to store the appliance on its side when it is in the moving truck to save space or make it easier to load other items. You cannot use the dryer while it is on its side. Does this Spark an idea?

Is it Safe?
-
As a general rule it is safe to lay your clothes dryer on its side; the internal parts are not affected by being in this position. Some dryers can also be tipped onto their backs without causing harm. Avoid placing the dryer on its front to protect the door and control panel.
Precautions
-
Wrap the dryer in bubble wrap or old blankets and towels to protect the paintwork from scratches. Clothes dryers can be deceptively heavy with the weight unevenly distributed throughout the appliance. Have a friend help you when it comes time to lower the appliance onto its side.

Procedure
-
Disconnect the power cord and loosen the screw on the vent clamp at the back of the appliance to prepare the appliance for moving. It might help to tape the power cord to the back of the dryer. Have a friend help you gently lower the dryer from the standing position to the side.
Standing the Appliance Back Up
-
When the dryer reaches its new location keep the bubble wrap or blankets in place and have an assistant carefully raise the appliance onto its feet. You will need to re-adjust the leveling legs, located in each corner of the underside of the dryer, for the different flooring beneath the appliance with an adjustable wrench.
