Party Ideas for a Boy's Ice Skating Party
Ice skating parties can be fun for boys of all ages. Whether you're renting out a rink for a large group or just showing up for an open skating session, you can shape the party around your boy's love of skating. Having cold weather foods and ice skating-themed goody bags will be a nice touch for the party. Does this Spark an idea?

Plan Ahead
-
Ice rinks are often booked regularly for hockey games and other events, so you'll want to give yourself plenty of time when picking a date for the party. Call around to rinks weeks or months before the planned party to see what their availability and rates are. Some rinks may have a special room available for serving cake and a meal. Local rinks may also have open skating sessions available where you can show up with your group and enjoy the ice, though these often don't allow for the intimacy of a private party.
Activities and Skate Rentals
-
Skating will be the main activity for your party, so you don't need to plan much else. Depending on the ability level of your group, you may want to have an instructor on hand to show everyone the ropes. A local high school hockey player may be able to help at a more affordable rate than a professional coach or instructor. If the rink will allow it, have some hockey sticks and pucks on hand for the boys to play with. Determine well ahead of time if the rink has skates available for rent or if guests need to bring their own. The last thing you want is a child to be left out because he assumed he could rent skates at the party.

Decorations and Goody Bags
-
Streamers, balloons and other decorations in white, silver or light blue would be a big hit at any ice skating party. You can also look into hanging posters or other decorations in the colors of the local hockey team. Check with the rink first before bringing any decorations, as each place will have their own rules about what is allowed. Things like hockey pucks, skate guards, gloves and hats are great additions to any goody bags.
Food
-
It's going to be cold out on the ice, so you'll want to have some warm foods and drinks available for the boys. Hot chocolate is usually a big hit at parties, as well as pizza and other warm food that can be ordered in advance and delivered at a specific time. A birthday cake in the shape of an ice skate would be a nice touch and bakeries should be able to help you out with this request.
