Different "weeders" will help you with different tasks.

Weeding is essential if you want to raise a healthy, productive vegetable crop. Some consider your own two hands to be the best gardening tools you have, as they have the ability to remove nutrient-stealing plants located close to your vegetables. In addition to your own appendages, there are many garden tools that will help keep your vegetable patch weed-free. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Neater Weeder

    • The Neater Weeder is a device you attach to an electric drill to get rid of weeds in a matter of minutes. The Neater Weeder is one piece of hardened steel, with the 32" x 1/4" shaft and 2" x 11/4" cutting head coated with titanium nitride to make it more durable. The advantages of using this device are that it's fast, it doesn't employ the use of chemicals, and you won't have to get on the ground to weed your vegetable garden.

    Hand-Helds

    • Garden Tool Company, Inc. lists several hand-held gardening tools specifically made to remove weeds. Two- and three-tine cultivators, weeding forks, angled hand weeders and crack and crevice weeders are some devices you can use in a vegetable garden, as are trowels, hand forks and garden knives. Conventional garden tillers may even be used to remove weeds from larger areas of your vegetable garden.

    Weed Mats

    • Commercial nurseries often employ the use of "weed mats" made of woven polypropylene or recycled plastic to keep unwanted plant growth under control, and you can do the same thing in your vegetable garden. Weed mats allow air, nutrients and water to pass though them, but they deter weeds, grass and other plants from growing beneath it. Simply roll it out in the rows between your planted vegetables and use them as a weed-free walkway through your garden.

    For Comfort

    • Weeding a vegetable patch can be hard work, even with the help of handy garden tools and other devices. Gloves, kneeling pads (also known as "kneelers"), sun hats and knee pads are just a few things that will help you be more comfortable. Aprons and storage bins may not make you more comfortable while you weed, but they help keep you clean and make carrying debris away easier.
