SharePoint View Vs. Read Permissions
If you have permissions to access a view in SharePoint, this means the site administrator or site collection administrator has granted you access to a view of a SharePoint list. If you are granted “read-only” permissions to that view, your permissions level allows you to view the data, but not make any changes to the list or view.

What is a View in SharePoint?
-
A view in SharePoint is similar to a view created in SQL Server. The view displays a dataset in a way specified by the user, possibly using sorts and filters to refine the view. Many views may be created from one list in SharePoint. Each view -- in fact, each list item -- may have its own defined permissions level. The users see only what their permissions levels grants them to see in the list or view.
Read-Only Permissions in SharePoint
-
“Read-Only” permissions, sometimes referred to as “View-Only” or “View” permissions, allow the user to see the list or view data, but not make any changes, additions or deletions from the list. Read-only permission level is the lowest level of privileges that can be granted for SharePoint site users.

Other Permission Levels in SharePoint
-
When SharePoint is deployed to the server, several levels of privileges are created by default. Those levels include "Full Control," "Design," "Contribute," "Read" and "Limited Access." In addition to these permission levels, each item in a SharePoint site or list can be configured to allow individual users to view and interact with the item.
How to Access the SharePoint Site
-
You must be invited to join a SharePoint site. In most cases, you will receive an email with the link to your site or list enclosed. Click the link and you will be prompted to log into the site. Log in with the credentials provided by the site administrator and click “OK.” You will see what your permission level permits you to see on the site.
