Techniques for Hair Trimming With Sheers
The difference between a professional-looking cut and an amateur one is the sharpness of your scissors. When trimming hair, make sure that your sheers are very sharp. The rule for sheers is the sharper the better. Try not to hurry through your trim. Working at an even pace without rushing will give you neater, more uniform results. Does this Spark an idea?

Straight-Across Trim
-
Part dry hair above the ears and around the circumference of the head. Hold the top portion of hair on top of the head with a hair clip. Comb the bottom portion of the hair until it's completely smooth and free of any tangles. Spray lightly with water. Starting at the right, run a comb through the damp hair. Hold the end of this section of hair between two fingers of the left hand and clip to the desired length. Work your way across the bottom layer of hair, combing, grabbing and cutting. Pull down the top layer of hair, comb and spray. Cut to the length of the underlayer.
V-Shaped Trim
-
Comb out tangles and part hair around the circumference of the head. Clip the top layer on top of the head. Wet the bottom layer, comb and begin cutting the hair at a slant. It will be shorter at the sides and slope down to its longest point at the middle of the back. After the first layer is finished, let down the remainder of the hair and cut it in accordance with the slanted underlayer of hair.

U-Shaped Trim
-
Comb out the hair and part it around the circumference of the head. Clip the top layer of hair on top of the head for cutting later. Comb the bottom layer and spray it with water. Cut the hair diagonally until you reach the center portion in the back. Round this section and continue cutting diagonally in the opposite direction, with the hair getting shorter as you cut towards the left side of the head. Drop the top layer and dampen it. Cut this layer to match the underlayer.
Why Trim the Hair?
-
Hair becomes damaged and brittle from environmental factors such as the sun, the wind, ponytail holders, harsh shampoos and abrasive, small-thread-count pillow covers. Your diet and even your age can cause hair to become damaged. Trim your hair to ensure that your ends are healthy, giving hair the look of vitality and providing ease in styling.
