Decorating Ideas for Mini Cupcakes for Weddings

Replace the traditional wedding cake with mini cupcakes. Not only do they look modern, they provide an easy way to distribute the cake. Each cupcake could be individually decorated or choose a uniform design. Because the canvas is smaller, the decoration must be smaller as well. Bring a few ideas when you visit the bakery so that you can discuss what is possible in terms of decorating mini cupcakes. On your wedding day, even the cupcakes should be perfect.

Flowers

Flowers are traditional for wedding cakes, whether it is a large cake or mini cupcakes. Use the colors that were chosen for the wedding. Flowers can be piped on the cupcakes with icing for a simple look or add elaborate fondant or gum-paste flowers. Another option is to place artificial flowers on top of the cupcakes.

Monograms

Cupcakes are the perfect way to show off the newly wedded couple's monogram. Their first name initials can be piped with icing in the wedding colors. If there is room, the last name initial can be placed in the center of each cupcake with the first name initials of the bride and groom on either side of it. Or have "Mr." written on some cupcakes and "Mrs." on others.

Themes

If there is a theme for the wedding, include an applicable image on the cupcakes. For a beach wedding, choose fondant starfish or sea horses to grace the tops of the cupcakes. A wedding held in a garden can present cupcakes with delicate butterflies lighting on top of them. If the wedding includes a lot of bling or sparkles, have edible or nonedible jewels placed on top of the cupcakes; if they are nonedible, be sure to inform the guests.

Simple or Traditional

The mini cupcakes do not have to be ornate. A solid color of frosting can look elegant when applied carefully; piped frosting swirls can be stunning. Or use frosting in a variety of colors. Gold or silver dragees, or small metallic balls, have a sophisticated look, as do pearl candies; place several on the top of each cupcake.
