Honey Jar Crafts for Rosh Hashana
Rosh Hashana is a two-day Jewish celebration commonly referred to as the Jewish New Year. It is considered the birthday of the world and is a serious celebration where the world is judged for the coming year. Like many Jewish holidays and traditions, Rosh Hashana features a number of customs including the honey jar, which symbolizes hope for a sweet year. Honey jar crafts can help you decorate your Rosh Hashana table while helping to provide some enjoyable activities for your family.

The Bee Jar
-
You can make a cute bee jar to hold your honey for Rosh Hashana using a glass jar with a lid, paint, electrical tape, pipe cleaners and one-half of a plastic foam ball. First, wash your glass jar and lid, then paint the entire jar yellow. Once the paint has dried, add strips of black tape horizontally around the jar to create bee stripes. Glue the ball to the top of your lid and paint its face to resemble a bee, adding the pipe cleaners for antennae. Just add honey and set it on the table.
Lid Decorations
-
If you don't have time to decorate an entire jar, you can simply decorate the lid of your honey jar. Create a bee ornament for your lid using black and yellow clay or Play-Doh and glue it on top of your lid. Use small felt balls found at craft shops to make tiny bees to decorate your lids or paint the lids with special designs. You can also make decorative lids using patterned cloth.

Apple Theme
-
The apple that is dipped into the honey is just as important as the honey in the Rosh Hashana tradition. Your kids can help you create a honey jar and apple plate using paper plates and plastic containers. Using construction paper, cut apple shapes your kids can glue onto the paper plates and plastic containers. You can also create apple decorations using red pipe cleaners by winding it around your finger to create a spiral, and shaping it into an apple shape. Add a small piece of green or brown pipe cleaner to serve as a stem.
Honey Jar Cards
-
You do not need to limit yourself to honey jars when creating honey jar crafts for your Rosh Hashana celebration. You can also create honey jar cards to send out as well-wishes for the new year. Create a fun bee-inspired card using your child's thumbprint dipped in yellow paint, then add stripes, wings and antennae to make it look like a bee. Add your New Year's greetings and send to your family and friends.
