The "Normal" indicator light on most Whirlpool dishwashers illuminates when a normal wash cycle is selected and is in progress. However, if the "Normal" indicator light is flashing at other times before or after a wash cycle, a problem may have happened. Resolving this issue and returning the dishwasher to normal use requires a few troubleshooting steps.
Normal Cycle
The "Normal" cycle is designed for typical amounts of food soils on dishes and is generally an energy saving cycle. The cycle will run between 1 hour and 45 minutes and 4 hours and 40 minutes, depending upon any additional cycle modifications or options. During the wash cycle, the "Normal" light will remain illuminated and will go out when the cycle is complete.

Door Switch
Sometimes the "Normal" light will blink if there is an issue with the door switch. Typically this can be resolved by opening and closing the dishwasher door firmly, then restarting the dishwasher or selecting a new wash program.
Reset
Try to perform a basic power reset if the "Normal" light keeps blinking after opening and closing the door and selecting a new wash program. Disconnect power to the Whirlpool dishwasher for 30 seconds, then restore the power. Open and close the door and make a new selection. If the "Normal" light does not blink, the reset was successful and the dishwasher can be programmed normally.
Service Needed
When a light blinks on a dishwasher control panel, the keypad may be stuck. Sometimes this is simply due to a dirty keypad, so wipe the control pad with a clean, damp cloth and then wipe it dry. Open and shut the dishwasher door and try to reprogram the dishwasher. If the "Normal" light continues to blink, the keypad console or the electronic control board may need to be replaced.
