Preschoolers will love decorating for Christmas with festive handprint crafts. Christmas-themed handprint crafts are an excellent way to get young children in the holiday spirit while enhancing their creativity. The key to a successful craft for preschoolers is to keep it simple and straightforward. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Reindeer with Handprint Antlers

    • Draw a simple picture of a reindeer without antlers and make enough copies for all the children. Help each child trace his left and right hand on top of the reindeer's head to create the antlers. Instruct the children to color and decorate their reindeer so that they can hang them up as a Christmas decorations.

    Simple Handprint Craft

    • Have each child dip both hands in either red or green paint. Then show the children how to press their hands firmly on a piece of paper. After this, instruct them to decorate around their handprints by drawing things that represent Christmas, such as ornaments, candy canes and presents. Display their handprint pictures once they have dried.

    Handprint Santa

    • Have the children dip one hand into white paint and press it to a piece of colored paper. Their white handprint will form Santa's beard. After this, hand out Santa hats that you have prepared in advance. Tell the children to glue Santa's hat above the beard -- the fingers should be pointing down. Then have them draw Santa's face between the beard and the hat. (His mouth can peek through the top of the beard.)

    Handprint Wreath

    • Hand a piece of paper with a circle printed on it to each child. Next, have them dip both hands into green paint and instruct them to press their hands on the edge of the circle. They should repeat the process until the entire circle is surrounded by green handprints. These represent the leaves of the wreath. Once the paint is dry, have the children draw ornaments and flowers on the wreath.
