A Cymbal & Monkey Project

A monkey with cymbals can be used as a decorative piece or part of a useful household item.

A monkey with cymbals can be incorporated into many craft projects. Some projects, such as a paper monkey with cymbals, can be purely decorative, while others, such as a monkey with cymbal bookends, can be useful as well. Four fun projects are suitable for craft-loving children of all ages.

  1. Clay monkey with cymbals

    • This craft project creates a figurine of a seated monkey with cymbals. It requires brown, black, gold and white clay. Shape the brown clay into one long oval for the torso, four long cylinders for the limbs and one circle for the head. Press the pieces together, attaching them to their appropriate places on the torso, so that the monkey is in a seated position. Place the arms outward so that they can hold the cymbals. Create six small discs out of the brown clay for the ears, hands and feet. Attach them as well. Use the white clay to create a dome for the mouth and nose. Draw a line with a pen across the dome for a smile and create two dots at the top of the dome for the nose. Form two small discs out of the black clay for the eyes. Form two flat discs out of the gold clay for the cymbals. Press them to the monkey's hands.

    Monkey with cymbals bookends

    • A bookend project builds on the clay figurine project. For this project, you need two wooden blocks, sandpaper and some wood glue. Create two clay monkey figurines as detailed in Section 1. Sand the wooden blocks. Allow the clay figurines to set for two hours, then apply wood glue to their seated bottoms. Gently press each monkey onto its block. Allow the bookends to dry overnight.

    Monkey with cymbals banana box

    • This craft project offers another use for the clay figurine of the monkey with cymbals. You will need a wooden box, wood glue and green, black and yellow paint. Begin by creating the monkey figurine in Section 1. Paint the box completely green. Once the paint has dried, paint bananas all over the sides of the box. Use yellow paint to create the bananas and outline them with black paint. Let the paint dry. Apply wood glue to the bottom of the monkey figurine and attach it to the top of the box. Allow it the whole project to dry overnight before opening the box.

    Paper monkey with cymbals

    • A paper monkey with cymbals is particularly suited to younger children as it does not require a lot of waiting. This project requires four paper plates, brown construction paper, markers and a stapler. Color two of the paper plates brown with the markers for the monkey's head and torso. Draw a face with the black marker on one of the brown plates. Cut two semicircles out of the brown construction paper and staple them to the sides of the monkey's face. These are the ears. Color the other two paper plates yellow to make cymbals. Staple the brown plates to each other at the edges. Cut a piece of brown construction paper in half, lengthwise. Staple one piece to one side of the torso and one to the other; these are the arms. Staple a cymbal to the end of each of the monkey's arms.
