Use handprints to make reindeer crafts.

Reindeer crafts are fun for the holiday season, especially for children, as they are easy to make. Using handprints to make the craft adds a personal touch. Reindeer handprint crafts can be done by children with minimal supervision. The finished products make cute holiday decorations or can be given as gifts to family members. Use the color red for the nose if you want to make Rudolph specifically.

  1. Foam Reindeer

    • A foam reindeer uses a handprint shape to make a holiday reindeer, perfect for decorating. Place your hand with the fingers spread out on brown craft foam and trace around it to get the shape. When you cut the handprint out, cut between each finger, as these will be the legs and the thumb is the head. Once you’ve cut the handprint out, glue a craft eye and a pom-pom nose to the thumb to make the face and a foam tail to the end of the reindeer. Pipe cleaners are shaped into antlers and, if you prefer, add small bells to make a collar.

    Reindeer Gift Wrap

    • Technically, this idea uses fingerprints to make the reindeer but you can still have fun using your entire hand to create the pattern. Using a large sheet of butcher paper in either brown or white. Place your hand in brown paint or a brown ink pad and then press it onto the paper. Keep pressing to create a pattern on the paper or just press randomly. Take a black marker and draw antlers and a face onto each fingerprint. Turn every fingerprint into reindeer or limit it to just a few.

    Paper Reindeer

    • This larger reindeer combines two handprints and a footprint and is perfect for very young children. Trace your foot and both hands onto brown paper or poster board. After cutting out the shapes, glue the handprints to the underside of the top of the foot. Put the thumbs next to each other to form the ears and the fingers will stick out as antlers. While you need to cut between each finger, you don’t need to cut out the toes of the footprint. The eyes can be drawn on or use craft eyes and a pom-pom at the bottom of the footprint adds a reindeer nose.

    Standing Reindeer

    • Using a paper bag with handprints creates an easy reindeer that has enough support to stand on its own. Trace and cut out two handprints on brown paper, or use red or green if you prefer. With a lunch-size paper bag, fold it and turn it so the open end is at the bottom and fold the bottom corner edges of the flap under to make the reindeer’s head. Glue the handprints to the back of the bag as antlers and, with markers, make a reindeer face on the flap to finish the reindeer. These reindeer make ideal holiday centerpieces.
