Timing
-
Decorate your co-workers cubicle on their actual birthday, if possible. However, if the birthday falls on a day the office is closed, decorate the closest day before. For example, if the birthday is on Saturday, decorate the office on Friday. This way your co-worker has apt time to celebrate at work.
Workspace
-
When decorating your co-worker's cubicle, be sure to respect the workspace. This means leaving enough room to complete work. Do not cover the computer or phone with decorations so work can continue as usual. Respect all safety rules. Do not block the exit of the cubicle or any other emergency exits.

Decorations
-
Use large, colorful balloons to show that it's a time of celebration. Combine latex balloons with Mylar balloons that say "Happy Birthday!" Tie the balloons to chairs or tack them to the bulletin board to keep the balloons secure and out of the way. Add streamers around the top of the counters and cabinets, even around windows. Use lights intertwined with the streamers for a glamorous look.
Banners
-
Make a homemade banner to say "Happy Birthday." Use markers and large sheets of paper or print a sign on the computer. Hang the banner in a place the entire office can see so everyone knows it's time to celebrate a birthday. Ask friends to sign and leave a message saying happy birthday to your co-worker. This can then double as a birthday card.
