Activities to Keep Little Girls Entertained for a Short Time
Sometimes young children act out when they feel bored or lack stimulus. Little girls behave properly when engaged in positive activities, but may need help finding something to pass the time. By directing play-based activities, you entertain young girls and keep them active. Whether you want to set up an outdoor experience or find ways to get through a rainy day at home, consulting your little girl will give you a good idea of how she wants to spend time.

Cooking
-
Whether helping out with dinner or baking treats for friends and neighbors, cooking activities keep young girls occupied and give them real-life experience. Girls also practice math through cooking by mixing and measuring ingredients. Parents should always supervise cooking activities and take on the dangerous tasks, such as cutting with sharp knives or using the oven. Girls can help prepare dinner by gathering ingredients, setting the table and serving the food. For a baking activity, allow little girls to choose one of their favorite recipes or even create a new one with ingredients you have at home.
Dramatic Play
-
Little girls have active imaginations and enjoy activities that allow them to role-play. They can perform with puppets, put on a fashion show or host a teddy bear tea party to entertain themselves and others. For a teddy bear tea, girls can get dressed up and set a table for their favorite stuffed buddies. By inventing names and dialogue for the toys, little girls use creativity to stay busy. They can also serve homemade lemonade and cookies to the pretend guests, practicing social skills. Putting on a fashion or puppet show will give young girls a chance to amuse family members.

Arts and Crafts
-
Art activities provide another way for young girls to creatively express themselves. Keeping an easel or art desk at home will give you a place to store various materials for arts and crafts projects. Girls can paint, color, weave, collage and stamp when bored at home. After creating new crafts, they might distribute them to loved ones or post them in their rooms, creating a mini gallery. Young girls can also make crafts to represent different events and holidays throughout the year.
Movement Activities
-
Get your little girl up and moving. According to "Archives of Disease in Childhood," only 11 percent of girls aged 5 to 8 get the recommended amount of physical activity each day. By participating in movement activities, little girls exercise their minds and bodies. For outdoor entertainment, they can sketch out a hopscotch court with sidewalk chalk, go for a nature walk, fly a kite or ride a bike. When the weather traps young girls indoors, they might find movement games, such as duck, duck, goose, hokey pokey or hide and seek. Though little girls typically do well with table activities, they still enjoy getting up and playing movement games.
