Teepee centerpieces can honor Native American cultures.

Many Native American tribes build teepees as their homes. The cone-shaped homes work like tents and are ideal to use on a Thanksgiving dinner table. Children and adults can create teepee craft projects to show off their creativity and artistic skills. With a few Native American books, craft ideas and some supplies, you have everything you need to create teepee centerpieces.

  1. Paper

    • Make paper teepees to use as centerpieces for your Thanksgiving dinner table. Roll a sheet of brown construction paper into the shape of a cone and tape it shut. Take small twigs and tape them to the inside of the top hole in the cone. Use markers to decorate the outside of the teepee for added decoration. Another idea is to use brown or tan poster board instead of paper. Poster board is thicker and will be more durable. Adjust the sizes of the paper or poster board before rolling it into the shape of a cone to make different sizes of teepees.

    Craft Foam

    • Use craft foam and a few craft supplies to make teepee centerpieces. Roll tan or brown craft foam into a cone shape and use hot glue to tack it into place. Insert three or four twig pieces into the top holes of the teepees. Decorate the craft foam with felt pieces. For example, cut bird shapes, bear prints and tribal designs out of felt. Hot glue the pieces of felt onto the teepees for decoration. Make a small, medium and large teepee. Place the teepees on a round platter and fill the platter with stones or rocks.

    Edible

    • Create edible teepee centerpieces using supplies from your local grocery store. Use pointy waffle cones to create the teepee and licorice strings to create the poles of the teepee. Cut off the tip of the waffle cones to insert the licorice strings as poles of the teepee. Glue decorations such as animal-shaped gummies onto the waffle cone using frosting.

Another idea is to cover the cone with white or beige frosting. Use icing pens to draw tribal art on the cone and small candy pieces to decorate with designs.

    Fabric

    • Fabric teepee centerpieces can add elegance to the dinner table during a Thanksgiving dinner. Use long twigs to form a cone shape and tie off the top using twine. Wrap the twig cone with brown or tan fabric, such as burlap or an old sheet. Glue the sheet tightly onto the twigs using hot glue. Cut a slit in one side of the fabric to create a door for the teepee. Glue the door open and place small Indian figurines inside the teepee for decoration. Indian-themed fabric is also available online and at many craft stores.
