Why Have Bluetooth on a Netbook?
The wireless short-distance Bluetooth connection technology is often available as an optional extra in laptops and netbooks. It enables Bluetooth devices to communicate across a distance of several meters to transfer files and share information. If you are considering purchasing a netbook with Bluebooth built-in, or adding Bluetooth functionality via a plug-in USB adapter, there are a number of advantages. A Bluetooth-enabled netbook is able to communicate wirelessly with a wide variety of peripherals and other devices.

Speakers
-
Due to restrictions on space and component cost, netbooks often come with a low-powered and basic set of speakers built-in. Using Bluetooth you can send the audio from your netbook to a compatible set of speakers somewhere else in the room. Whether you want to listen to music or watch a movie, you can achieve much better audio quality by setting up Bluetooth speakers. Many speaker sets have this functionality. Check individual product listings for more information.
Cellular Phones
-
The majority of cellular phones on the market have Bluetooth capabilities built in, which means they can communicate with a Bluetooth-enabled netbook without the need for a separate cable. Once the connection between the two devices has been established, Bluetooth provides a much easier way of transferring photos, music, video and other files between your cellular device and netbook. Check the documentation supplied with your phone for details of how to configure a Bluetooth connection.

Input Devices
-
Many Bluetooth-enabled input devices are also available, which can prove useful if you find your netbook keyboard and trackpad too cramped, or if you are using the machine as a media center. You might want to use a full-sized keyboard and mouse to work on documents and browse the Web, for example, giving you extras that a netbook doesn't have (such as a number pad and dedicated shortcut keys). If you have your netbook connected to a big screen to watch movies and other content, then a Bluetooth-powered remote control can be used to control the computer and video and music playback from a distance.
Printers and Other Devices
-
A number of Bluetooth-enabled printers are available. By pairing a printer with a netbook that has Bluetooth capabilities you can print without the need for a cable. You will still need to install the relevant printer drivers on the netbook from the Web – check the documentation supplied with the printer for full details. This makes it much easier to share a printer between several netbooks, laptops or PCs. Many other Bluetooth-powered devices are available on the market that you might want to link with your netbook, including tablets, digital photo frames and game controllers.
