Child safety features could prevent your Bosch dishwasher's on/off button from working.

The Bosch corporation is an industrial powerhouse: The Germany-rooted durable-goods manufacturer supplies the globe with automotive parts and leads Europe in appliance sales. Bosch appliances, including dishwashers, have a presence in the United States, as well. As with any other warranted appliance, you're instructed to troubleshoot a Bosch dishwasher if trouble arises. For instance, try to find out why you on/off button has stopped working before you go to the trouble of calling a repair tech. The problem might be something you can rectify yourself. There are a number of reasons why the on/off button on your Bosch dishwasher might fail to work that you can take care of with no repair know-how.

Power Supply

Video of the Day

A power supply issue is the first thing to look into if your Bosch dishwasher's on/off button will not work. If there is no power to the dishwasher, the on/off button will not work. If pushing the button does not turn the dishwasher on, ensure there has not been a power outage by making sure electricity works elsewhere in the room or home. In addition, check your household's fuse box to make sure a fuse has not been blown, which will prevent the on/off button from turning the dishwasher on. If your dishwasher repeatedly blows fuses, you may have to buy more powerful fuses.

Door

In most Bosch dishwashers, the on/off button will turn on the dishwasher and illuminate the display regardless of whether or not the machine is in use. The on/off button differs from the start button, and the door of the dishwasher must usually be closed for the start button to work, not the on/off button. However, certain models of Bosch dishwashers will appear to be off even if the on/off button has been pushed. The screen may not illuminate, and it will appear that the dishwasher is completely off until the door is closed. Ensure that the dishwasher's door is fully closed and latched.

Child Lock

Some models of Bosch dishwashers have a child lock feature to ensure children are unable to get into the dishwasher or otherwise be injured in or around the appliance. Procedures for setting and disabling the child lock feature vary from one Bosch model to another but usually consist of holding down a combination of buttons for a set period of time, such as a few seconds. Check your manual to learn how to disable this feature on your dishwasher, because if the child lock mechanism is enabled, the on/off button will not work.

Repair

If none of the above troubleshooting methods work, your button may be broken or disconnected. Your user manual will contain a series of support telephone numbers that you can call to have a technician come out and service your dishwasher, or you can take your dishwasher back to the store you purchased it from if it is still under warranty.
