Sun and Moon

A couple can have a lot of fun creating sun and moon costumes. They can be fairly comfortable and simple outfits for a couple interested in low-key costumes. One partner dresses in yellow pants and a yellow shirt to be the sun, the other in gray pants and a gray shirt to be the moon. Cut out two cardboard circles with holes in the middle for your faces to show through, then paint them the appropriate colors. The sun partner can wear yellow greasepaint makeup on her face, while the moon partner wears gray or silver.
Cop and Robber

Couples can channel their inner good guy and bad girl by playing cop and robber for a party. For a no-fuss, last-minute prep for a party or Halloween, rent a cop costume from a costume shop or wear navy dress pants and a navy button-down shirt and buy a cop hat, badge, holster and toy gun. For the robber, rent a black-and-white-striped convict uniform or wear a black catsuit and a black robber mask over the eyes. Carry a bag full of "stolen goodies."

When couples go to parties dressed as well known archetype high school couples, they often choose the football star and the head cheerleader. Why not turn that pairing on its ear and dress as the class nerd and the cheerleader? Guys, wear some polyester pants that are too short and pair them with a plaid short-sleeved shirt. Don't forget the pocket protector full of pens and some Buddy Holly-style black plastic glasses with tape. Ladies, buy a cheerleader skirt and sweater costume, pull your hair in a ponytail and carry pom-poms.
Dog and Cat

Take that "fights like cats and dogs" metaphor literally and buy dog and cat costumes in a costume shop. Or, creative types can put together these looks at home. Girls wear a black shirt and pants, or a black bodysuit, and attach a tail to it. Wear a headband with cat's ears and draw whiskers on your face with black eyeliner. Guys, buy a furry dog suit costume or wear a brown shirt and pants with an attached tail. Buy a headband with attached dog ears at a costume shop and color the tip of your nose black with eyeliner.
