My MacBook Shakes When I Log In
It's not a mysterious illness; when the user password window shakes on the MacBook screen, you're doing something wrong on as you log in. There's no need to take your MacBook in for service, you're not seeing things and you haven't lost your data. Blame the shakes on a missing or forgotten user account password.

Mac OS X provides multiple user accounts that allow you to share your Mac with other users. This is convenient when your family has one Mac in the household. When you create a user account with a password that no other user knows, you have a secure home folder that no other user can access. Mac OS X requires at least one administrator account to set up multiple user accounts.
Access Denied

When you start up your MacBook, the user accounts dialog box appears. When you click on a user account and enter a password that doesn't belong to the account, the login box shakes momentarily as if to erase the bad password. When your MacBook login screen shakes, you are denied access to the account you clicked on. Absent the correct password, you can not log onto the MacBook under that specific account. The computer does not alert you with an error message, nor does it give any indication of what is wrong.

Resetting the Password

If you have lost your password, you must log in with the administrator account and then select the username of the account whose password you want to change. You have the opportunity to change the password and then enter it again for verification, plus provide a hint if you forget it. Your Keychain password will also be changed to your new password.
Mac OS X Upgrade Issue

If you are absolutely certain that you have entered the correct password but the login box still shakes, try to recall if you recently performed a Mac OS X 10.5 upgrade from Mac OS X 10.2.8 or earlier. You may not get access to your account if your password has eight or more characters. This is a known issue with the upgrade, according to Apple, and you will have to reset your password.
Screen Issues

The shaking of your MacBook's login box when you enter the wrong password should not be confused with other screen issues your MacBook might experience. If your MacBook has strange lines that zigzag or your screen displays strange stripes, your logic board could be the problem.
