What Is Text Wrangler?
TextWrangler is a text-editing software application developed by Bare Bones Software for the Mac OS X operating system. Originally, TextWrangler was designed as a commercial product, but at the time of publication it is available as a freeware alternative to the company’s flagship software application, BBEdit, which offers a wider variety of text-editing options.

TextWrangler is designed to deal with plain text content only and does not provide the formatting features offered by word processing programs such as Microsoft Word. In spite of its lack of text formatting capability, TextWrangler offers a variety of text-editing features, including file comparison, syntax highlighting and find and replace functionality.
Text-Editing Features
-
In addition to its ability to compare files and highlight syntax and find and replace text, TextWrangler offers a variety of text-editing features, such as split editing windows, hard or soft text wrapping and auto-indent. The software also comes with several built-in text transformations, including change case, zap gremlins and entab/detab. You can also open and save text files using Unix, Microsoft or Mac line-ending formats. The program also gives users syntax coloring and function navigation capability for a variety of programming codes, including Object Pascal, Java and Python.
