Different Ways to Set Up a Church for a Wedding
Creating a wedding wonderland in the church in which you plan to marry is one of the many joyful activities of organizing the day of your nuptials. Forethought and a few simple decorations can transform a functional room into an enchanting wedding venue for you, your family and friends. Check with your church to see if they have any decorating restrictions, then plan well in advance of the set date. Traditional decorations generally include flowers, candles, ribbons, lace, and pearls or crystals.

Seasonal Wedding
-
Begin by decorating the front or back of the church doors with a wreath made of seasonal colors and flowers. Spring may have daffodils and tulips; winter may have poinsettias or pine cones. Continue the theme down the aisle with a runner painted or appliquéd with your chosen design. Place dry or real flowers in pots at the ends of the church pews. At the altar, continue the theme with larger pots of greenery beside each position where your bridal party will stand. Create a large arch of greenery, flowers or candles where the bride and groom will recite their vows.
Quilt Wedding
-
Prior to the wedding, have fabric wall hangings for doors, pews and the altar created in your chosen colors and patterns. Adjust the size to fit the location. You can make the decorations something that you can reuse in the décor of your new home. Pew decorations can be attractive table mats, the church door hanging can be a welcome quilt, and the altar hangings can be bed quilts. Create them as ornamental but practical decorations that can be reused in your new home.

Light Wedding
-
Decorate your church with candles. Place candle holders decorated with ribbon or beads of gemstones at the entrance to the church, at the end of each pew in the church, and along the altar, behind each member of the wedding party. Use a set of chandeliers behind where the bride and groom will be standing. If you want to be more modern, add spotlights intersecting and in appropriate places.
Nature Wedding
-
Among the most beautiful decorations are dried, spray-painted bush or tree limbs. Once painted, the outlines of each intricate twig adds a bit of magic to the church setting. Use these liberally in vases at the entrance to the church and along the pews. Create a forest of them on the altar as a backdrop for the special event. Be more creative by making wreathes of painted or natural grapevines, studded with the greenery of the season or the colors of the wedding theme.
