Natural Remedies for Detangling Hair
No matter how often you clean your hair, tangles can be unavoidable. Those with curly, brittle or coarse hair can be especially susceptible to tangles, and brushing through them can only further the damage. Although there are many deep conditioners available on the market that help with detangling, you can also try more natural alternatives. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Apple Cider Vinegar
-
Mix a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and a cup of warm water. Apply to hair after shampooing without rinsing out, then apply conditioner. Because apple cider vinegar is an alkaline, acetic solution, it will likely cause overdrying of hair if overused. Use about twice a month to prevent over-drying.
Aloe Vera Mixture
-
You can use this aloe vera concoction on your hair while attempting to rehydrate it for less tangles. Mix one teaspoon of aloe vera gel with a couple drops of glycerin and grapefruit oil, half a teaspoon of grapeseed extract and eight ounces of clean water. Keep this solution in a spray bottle, spraying lightly while in the shower. Keep in mind that citrus oils are sensitive to sun rays, so use caution before heavy sun exposure.
-
Honey Conditioner
-
Honey is a naturally occurring substance that can help retain water and moisture in your hair upon application. Warming honey before the application can help negate the effects of the hydrogen peroxide that is released from honey's antibacterial properties. Mix half a cup of honey (warmed in the microwave) with two tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil. Massage into the scalp through the ends of your hair and let sit for thirty minutes. Rinse out with a nonsulfate cleanser.
Protein Mixture
-
If your hair gets overmoisturized to the point where it gets oily or greasy, a protein mixture can counteract it, thus preventing tangles. Mix one beaten egg with a tablespoon of reduced fat mayonnaise and two tablespoons olive oil. Massage in your scalp and hair and leave in for an hour under a shower cap. Rinse out with a nonsulfate cleanser. For faster and deeper conditioning, sit under a warm blow-dryer for thirty minutes before cleansing.
