Furry Pencil Head Craft
Let’s face it – homework stinks. Still, it’s a part of most kids’ after-school schedule from September through June. If you know some kids who dread putting pencil to paper to finish up their schoolwork, make their pencils a little more appealing and their homework a little more tolerable with some silly pencil head crafts.
-
Feather Heads
-
Use pieces of brightly colored feather boas to create pencil toppers. Combine pieces from different colored boas to create variety. Hot glue the boa pieces to the top of the pencil. Then, decorate with glitter, sequins and other decorative items. Attach craft eyes and a pom-pom nose to give the creature a face.
Animals Everywhere
-
Colored pipe cleaners can be rolled, bent and twisted to create fun, animal shaped pencil toppers. Wrap one end of the pipe cleaner around the pencil and use the rest to shape the animal. Choose pipe cleaners of different colors and lengths to create ears, noses and arms. Attach craft eyes to the animal using glue.
-
Fur Balls
-
Combine pom-poms of different shapes and colors to create furry pencil toppers. Make likenesses of real animals, like bears or pigs, or make up your own. Glue pom-poms together and then decorate them as desired. When your creature is complete, glue it to the top of a pencil.
Tips
-
If creating these creatures with younger children, use craft glue rather than super glue to reduce the risk of injury. You can also use household items like buttons and paper clips to decorate your creatures. Build creatures on removable pencil erasers to allow for easy swapping and access to the pencil’s attached eraser.
