Natural Remedies to Untangle Hair
Tangles and knots easily develop in curly hair and coarse hair. If not detangled, these knots can worsen and cause breakage and damage to the hair shaft. Knots also make hair look messy and uncontrolled. Natural detangling products and home remedies help to remove tangles and knots in the hair without damaging the hair with harsh chemicals. Does this Spark an idea?

Detangling Product
-
Use a natural or 100 percent organic hair detangler to remove knots and tangles. Alternatively, make your detangler using all natural ingredients. Combine in a bowl one teaspoon of aloe vera gel, one-half teaspoon of grapefruit seed extract, two drops of grapefruit essential oil, two drops of glycerin and eight ounces of purified water. Stir until blended, then pour the mixture into a spray bottle. Dampen hair with this mixture before using a comb or fingers to remove tangles.
Method
-
Always dampen the hair before attempting to detangle, as wet hair is more flexible. Use a hair detangler, or dampen with water and conditioner. Begin at the hair ends and gradually work your way up to the roots. Partition the hair in sections and isolate knots, rather than trying to detangle large sections at once. Use small and gentle strokes, so as not to break hair ends.

Tool
-
Use a wide-toothed comb to remove tangles and knots in the hair. Alternatively, or in addition, use your fingers to work the knots out. Another option is to use a paddle brush, if tangles are minor and located all over the head. Loosen tight or stubborn knots with the end of a safety pin or other sharp object. Avoid fine-toothed combs, which can cause breakage and fraying.
Cutting Knots
-
If knots cannot be removed naturally, your last resort is to cut them out. Use a pair of barber’s scissors, so as not to damage the hair ends. Comb the hair and detangle the knot, removing as many strands from the knot as possible. Then clip the knot out with the shears.
Prevention
-
To prevent tangles, wrap hair at night. Loose hair tangles and knots more easily. Another method of prevention is to shampoo only the scalp. Shampoo causes knots and tangles by causing hair strands to entwine together. Apply shampoo to scalp with fingertips, but avoid pulling the product through the shafts of the hair. A leave-in conditioner will also help to prevent tangles.
