Wedding favors, or souvenirs, are a traditional part of the wedding reception. Each guest receives a small token as a thank you from the bride and groom for sharing in their special day. However, pre-made wedding favors can be expensive, taking money from your budget that could be spent on flowers or the honeymoon. Making your own wedding souvenirs can save money. With a little creativity and the right supplies, you can make wedding souvenirs that will bring personality to your big day.

  1. Containers

    • To make traditional wedding souvenirs, your will need supplies such as decorative containers to hold goodies and favors. Such supplies include things like jars with lids or corks, tins, favor pails, gable boxes, truffle boxes and miniature take-out boxes. You can also fill things like paper cones, flower pots and fake bird’s nests with various items. Bags make for soft containers and come in a variety of materials such as satin, cotton, and tulle netting.

    Decorative Supplies

    • In order to make wedding souvenirs you will need various supplies to decorate your creation. Decorative supplies include things like fabric, ribbons or twine. Fake or preserved flowers add color, as well as fake birds or feathers. Other decorations include tissue paper, beads and wax or sticker seals for envelopes. Depending on the favor you are making, you will need felt pens and markers to add personalized messages or signatures. There are also decorative supplies such as thank you tags, and personalized ribbons or stickers with the couple’s initials and/or the wedding date.

    Goodies

    • Decide if you want your wedding favors to be edible, decorative or functional. Once you decide, there is a multitude of wedding souvenir goodies to choose from. Popular edible items include things like Jordan almonds, mints, chocolates and cookies. Take-out boxes filled with fortune cookies are a growing popular trend. Decorative goodies include things like sand, salt or shells to fill jars. You can also use potpourri to fill bags or sachets. Bath salts, essential oils, seed packets, plants and flower bulbs are just some of the functional goodies that you can offer your guests as souvenirs.

    Other Supplies

    • In order to make your own wedding souvenirs, you will also need other functional supplies to put your craft together. You will likely need things like super glue, hot glue guns and hot glue, scissors, wire, wire cutters, tape or double sided tape. When working with fabric, ribbons or food ingredients, you will also need measuring devices such as a ruler, measuring tape, measuring cups and measuring spoons. If your souvenir making project includes things like photos, you will need a camera, printer and photo paper.
