Candy Table Ideas for Birthday Parties

Candy tables take many forms, from several bowls of candy on a small table to elaborate setups with crystal serving pieces. Budget plays a major role when determining the scale and content of a candy table, as well as the theme of a party and the age of the guests. With a fully-stocked candy table, there is no need to provide additional favors for guests.

Candy

  • A bulk food store is an ideal place to purchase large amounts of candy. For a child's party, candy necklaces, sugar sticks, bubble gum and licorice are sure hits. For an adult's party, choose more mature candies, such as chocolate-covered almonds, truffles, mints and marshmallow treats. Complement the decor of your party with color-coordinated jellybeans, gummy candies, lollipops, Jordan almonds and candy canes in matching colors.

Containers

  • Add dimension to your candy table with containers in various sizes and shapes. Use vases and tall drinking glasses to hold tall candies, such as licorice and candy canes, and bowls to hold smaller candies, such as marshmallow treats and almonds. Candies that are packaged, such as sugar sticks and mini chocolate bars, can be placed on plates and tiered serving platters. Unpackaged candies will require spoons or tongs for sanitary purposes.

Bags or Boxes

  • Provide your guests with bags or boxes to take home candy. For a child's party, small plastic loot or goodie bags or decorated brown lunch bags are appropriate. For an adult's party, opt for something a little more elegant, such as small favor boxes or drawstring organza bags. If you will be using your candy buffet in lieu of guest favors, attach thank-you tags to the candy bags or boxes.

Decorations

  • The decorations you choose for your candy table should be based on the celebrant. If it's a child's birthday party, cover the table with a disposable birthday-themed tablecloth and place a bundle of helium balloons attached to a decorative weight in the middle. Then, sprinkle confetti all over the table and place birthday hats between the candy dishes. For an adult's birthday party, add class to your candy table with with a table runner that matches your party's theme or draped fabric that matches your party's color scheme. Then, sprinkle flower petals all over the table, add a floral centerpiece and complete the look with several candles.
