Pastel Colored Wedding Ideas

Pastel colors are highly versatile and complement many wedding themes.

Couples who wish to add subtle elegance to their wedding without making a bold color statement may consider pastels. Pastels incorporate a wide range of hues and can be used to complement many wedding themes and styles. Versatile and yet unobtrusive, pastels can be safely combined to create unique wedding ideas without appearing fussy or gaudy. Pastels tend to work best for spring and summer weddings, their colors evocative of light, delicate tones, in contrast to the deeper, stronger colors of fall and winter. However, pastels are versatile enough to be combined alongside bold colors to complement stronger tones; they also work well when used with gold and silver.

  1. Pastel Themes

    • Pastel colors complement many wedding themes. Dusky pinks and lilacs are evocative of traditional elegance when combined with ivory, satin and lace; baby pinks and blues work well together to create a more youthful look. Pastels are ideal for a tea-party themed wedding, complete with crockery and frosted cakes. Yellows, limes and greens have a fresh, modern feel and may be complemented by selecting foods of a similar color for the wedding breakfast. Shades of peach and orange complement the browns, reds and golds evocative of a fall wedding. Incorporate your theme into your wedding stationary, as well as reception name cards, seating plans and even your wedding photo album.

    Flowers

    • Flowers are a perfect way of show-casing a color scheme. With so many different types of flowers available and the wide range of tones and shades to choose from throughout the year, you should be able to pick from a range of plants and colors to suit a pastel theme. Brides may consider adding touches of color to white flower arrangements by adding just a scattering of the subtlest pinks, or light creams or other pastel shades, to bouquets or centerpieces. Your color scheme can be continued in the bridesmaid's flowers, in the button holes and corsages for the wedding party, in floral decorations for the wedding ceremony and reception party and even in floral party favors for guests to take home.

    Wedding Attire

    • Extend your theme to the bridesmaids, the groom and his attendants. Bridesmaid's dresses, shoes and accessories can be chosen to complement your pastel color scheme and wedding theme. Pastel neck ties can be purchased for the male attendants. You may wish to vary from traditional dress, especially if planning a beach wedding, or ask guests to dress up according to your wedding theme.

    Centerpieces and Cakes

    • Incorporate pastels into centerpieces and cake decorations. Look for colored candles or vases for your table decorations. Use cake stands as centerpieces and decorate them with silk flowers, beads, pastel colored candy and party favors for guests to take home. Use fruit to decorate reception tables and complement your wedding theme. Incorporate colored table runners, tea lights and napkins to reinforce your theme. Decorate your wedding cake with colored icing or flowers to draw upon your wedding theme. Alternatively, serve pastel colored cupcakes to your guests alongside your traditional wedding cake.
