Pink and Purple Themes
-
Showcase classic pink and purple shades throughout the baby girl's nursery. Have one main color pink and purple or mix it up by combing both light and dark shades. Paint stripes with a variety of light and dark pink and purple, let the paint dry and paint dark pink polka dots over the stripes. Tie pink or purple ribbons around dresser handles and stock the nursery with plenty of pink and purple items such as plush toys, dolls wearing pink and doll houses for when your little girl gets older. All sorts of other themes work well with pink and purple, such as princess, heart, lamb and bunny themes.
Nature and Flower Themes
-
Nature or flower themes work well for a baby girl. Get creative by using double-sided tape to attach silk ivy vines along the borders of shelves and dressers. You can also hang the vines on the wall from the ceiling, so they drape down. Just avoid hanging vines in the middle of the room or directly behind the crib. Create a forest or flower mural on one wall or decorate the border of the room with flower decal stickers. Include silk flowers in a vase and place these on your daughter's dresser along with other accents such as ceramic flowers, handmade flowers and other nature items. These rooms can also include plenty of plush stuffed animals in the toy box and throughout the room. Choose neutral colored bedding or include bedding and curtains with a forest or flowers printed on it.

Bright Colors or Cartoon Themes
-
Bright colors and cartoon images attract the attention of newborns and babies. Design a cheerful nursery that includes yellow, pastel green, orange or lime green walls. You can create a cartoon circus theme or display princess or Disney cartoons in the room. After painting the walls, adorn them with character decal stickers. Use cartoon crib bedding, matching curtains and a rug. Bright furniture also goes well in this room, especially if you plan on using more than one vibrant shade. Paint the dresser yellow and paint each drawer a different bright color such as orange, green, red or yellow. You can also paint the knobs different colors or tie rainbow-colored ribbons around each dresser knob. Include plush toys as decoration on the dresser and shelf but avoid putting soft toys in the crib with the baby.
Animal Themes
-
A decorative animal theme is another option for a girl's nursery. Use a pink color scheme with leopard or zebra stripes. Decorate the room with stuffed safari animals on the shelves, dresser and toy box. Paint an animal mural on the wall or dress up the walls with animal decal stickers. Find rustic-looking oak or solid white furniture. These rooms can also include rugs with animal footprints on them along with a zebra print table and chair set, hanging animals and monkey, giraffe and zebra mobiles. Showcase domestic animals such as cats, dogs or birds. Paint a puppy or kitten border in a pet-theme nursery. Adorn her dresser with dog or cat figurines or use twine string to hang flying birds from the ceiling.
