Make sure young adolescents are supervised in public malls.

If a birthday, graduation or other special occasion is on the horizon, celebrate the festivity with a day party at the mall or a sleepover. Mall parties can inspire you to come up with scavenger hunts that send groups of adolescents around the mall in search of the items on their hunt list. Sleepovers can have scavenger hunts, too, as well as other types of activities. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Purchase-Required Scavenger Hunts

    • A purchase-required scavenger hunt is one where the kids at the party are given a set amount of money by the party hosts, such as the birthday boy's parents. The kids must use the money to purchase items that are are on the scavenger hunt list. For instance, if the list calls for one word puzzle, kids can go into the bookstore at the mall and buy a word puzzle book. Any leftover money is turned over to the funders of the hunt.

    Scavenger Hunt Competition

    • A scavenger hunt competition is where two or more groups of kids compete against one another to complete their scavenger hunt list first. With a scavenger hunt competition, each team receives the list of items and they must race around the mall in order to collect the things that are on the list. Another idea for the scavenger hunt competition is to give each team a digital camera and have them take pictures of the items that they find as evidence that they, indeed, located the things on the list.

    DIY Sleepover Scavenger Hunt

    • The do-it-yourself sleepover scavenger hunt takes place during slumber parties. At the party, one team or pair of kids makes up a scavenger hunt for the other team to complete. To make the scavenger hunt, the team must hide certain objects around the house or yard and then create the list that the other team will use to find the things that are hidden. After one team goes, the teams switch turns and it becomes the other team's turn to design the sleepover scavenger hunt.

    Slumber Party Cooking Contest

    • A slumber party isn't a slumber party without food, so turn the concept of food into an activity for kids to partake in. In the slumber party cooking contest, kids compete against one another to create the best looking or tastiest food. One idea is to host a best cookie contest, a cupcake decorating contest or the best peanut butter and jelly sandwich. After the little chefs have made their creations, they taste each other's foods and vote on the best ones. In the end, the kids get to enjoy and eat what they make.
