Crafting a Velcro Dartboard
Darts is a throwing game wherein actual darts, or light spears, are thrown at a target, or dartboard. According to Encyclopedia Britannica Online, the game of darts is one of England’s oldest sports and became popular in England in the 19th century. Make a velcro dartboard, a safer version for children, with materials that you may already have at home or that can be found in hardware or craft supply stores.

Materials
-
The materials that you need to make a Velcro dartboard are Velcro hook-and-loop fasteners, cardboard or cork, a black marker and glue. Other materials that you need are flannel or felt, a nylon chord, stainless hanging wire or fishing line and a stapler. You will also need ping pong balls in place of actual darts.

Cut out a circle of cardboard or cork that's 18 inches in diameter. Glue a piece of green flannel or felt on one side of the cardboard or cork. Create different sections on the board by drawing five evenly spaced circles on the flannel or felt with a black marker. Number each space so that it corresponds to a certain number of points. For example, the middle, and smallest circle is worth the most points and the outermost circle is worth the least. Staple a nylon chord, stainless hanging wire or fishing line to the back of the dart board so you can hang it on a wall.

Use ping pong balls instead of darts when making a Velcro dartboard. Place squares of self-adhesive Velcro dots around ping pong balls. Make as many ping pong balls with Velcro as you need and make sure to use the Velcro hook and not the loop, which is the fuzzy side of the fastners. The Velcro hooks are what sticks to the flannel on the dartboard. Additionally, you can reinforce the Velcro dots by using a hot glue gun to stick the Velcro to the balls.
Variations
-
Another way to make a Velcro dartboard is to use different colors of felt for each section on the board. This can be done by simply cutting out circles in different sizes and gluing them one on top of the other. Likewise, you can create sections on the dartboard much like you would a pie and number each section to correspond to points as well. Sticking sheets of Velcro on the cardboard or cork is another variation. However, you won't be able to draw the segments that you need on the Velcro. If you can't hang the dartboard on a wall you can stand your board up on a chair or shelf. Additionally, instead of sticking Velcro dots on the ping pong balls, you can wrap the balls with thin strips of Velcro.
